Sound & Vibration Healing – Helping Reduce Stress
We’ve all heard the expression, ‘you are what you eat’, but do you also know you are what you hear? Sounds we ‘ingest’ are as important as the foods we eat. For example, if you eat an overly unhealthy meal you’ll feel its effects in the body and brain, perhaps developing a belly ache and tiredness, causing low energy and brain fog that leads you straight into the couch. On the other hand, a healthy meal will keep you feeling light on your toes and energetic. The same happens with sound. If you listen to uplifting words or musical tunes you will feel uplifted, wanting to move your feet and gain the ability to uplift others. Listen to sad tunes and your mood will match it. Listen to gangsta’ rap and you may feel like taking on your opponent. Get my drift?
Who we are today is a combination of what we’ve heard throughout our lives, whether from our parents, teachers, the media, influential artists, friends and so on, it has helped shape us. It’s shaped our personalities, political views, insecurities, anxieties, fierceness, desires, thinking patterns, etc… The first sounds we hear are in the womb, drawing comfort and familiarity to the world around us and then…BAM, the first signs of trauma are embedded into our nervous system the second we are born, listening to our own cries, hospital machines and strangers talking until a nurse places you onto your mother’s chest to hear her soothing voice and familiar heartbeat.
Our everyday lives somewhat follow the same pattern. We awaken to familiar sounds, then head to our destinations where we hear all kinds of negative (low frequency) and positive (high frequency) sounds until returning to that place of familiarity. Though, at times it’s hard to shut off surrounding ‘noise’, including the ones in your head due to many reasons. Stress is usually the main reason. When this happens we can turn to healing modalities for comfort.
Here are a few ways in which Sound-Bowls and their vibrations affect mind and body:
- Creates a sense of deep relaxation, mindfulness and calm.
- Improves Self-Confidence and Boosts creative and productive potential
- Stimulates blood circulation
- Better Concentration and Sleep
- Pain relief for joints, spine injuries, shoulders, headaches and migraines
- Better Digestion
- Clears stress/tension blockages making way for better energy flow
We all listen to music we are familiar with because they bring a sense of comfort and soothing to the ‘Ego’. So the next time you listen to a song, a person, or maybe even an animal, notice your selection. You’ll notice you automatically look for the frequencies that match your mood. With this kind of awareness, we can all heal, reduce stress and find a sense of harmony by choosing to tune into sounds that instill calm and uplifting feelings.
